Frequently Asked Questions

Costs & estimates

How much do new gutters cost in Rhode Island?
Our new seamless aluminum gutters typically cost $10 to $15 per linear foot installed, with downspouts included free, or roughly $1,500 to $3,000 for a typical home. Custom colors add about 10% and 6-inch gutters about 50%. See our installation cost guide.
How much does gutter cleaning cost?
Our gutter cleaning starts at $185, and most single-family homes fall between $185 and $499. Condos and commercial buildings are quoted per property. See our cleaning cost guide.
How much do gutter guards cost?
Our gutter guards cost $9 to $15 per linear foot installed, including cleaning your gutters and downspouts and any repairs needed. That's about half what the national brands charge. See our gutter guard cost guide.
Are estimates free?
Yes. Every Mr. Gutter estimate is free with no obligation, and many can be done from a photo.
Do you offer discounts?
Yes. See our current specials, including senior and military discounts.

Scheduling & visits

How quickly will I hear back?
The same business day. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm; requests that come in after 5pm or on a weekend get a reply the next business day.
Is the estimate really free?
Yes, when we price the job over the phone, from your photos or by looking at your house online. A service call for an on-site inspection is paid, and the cost goes toward any work you agree to.
Will you let me know when you're coming?
Yes. We let you know the day before we come.
Can I visit your office?
Our locations are by appointment only, with no walk-ins. The fastest way to start is a call or the estimate form, with a photo if you have one.

Gutter cleaning

How often should gutters be cleaned?
Most Rhode Island homes need two cleanings a year, in late fall and spring. Homes under oaks or pines may need three. See how often to clean gutters.
What happens if I don't clean my gutters?
Water overflows onto the fascia, siding and foundation, gutters sag under the weight, and ice dams become more likely in winter.
Do you clean downspouts too?
Yes. Every cleaning includes the downspouts, cleaned by hand: we take the elbows apart, clean out everything inside and put them back together properly. Flushing with water is available as an add-on, but we don't always recommend it, because it can push clogs and debris into underground drainage, which can lead to more costly repairs.

New gutters

What are seamless gutters?
Gutters formed on site from one continuous coil of aluminum, cut to the exact length of each run, so there are no joints along the straight sections to leak.
What size gutters do I need?
Most homes use 5-inch K-style gutters. Large or steep roofs often need 6-inch gutters with 3x4-inch downspouts. See 5-inch vs. 6-inch gutters.
What colors do gutters come in?
Our seamless gutters come in fifteen colors. See gutter colors.

Gutter guards

Are gutter guards worth it?
Usually, if you have trees near the roof, a tall house or you're paying for several cleanings a year. See the best gutter guards.
Do gutter guards work with pine needles?
Fine micro-mesh guards do. Screens, foam and brush inserts let needles in or trap them.
Is there a warranty on your gutter guards?
Yes. All Mesh Pro guards are backed by the manufacturer's warranty and a no-clog money-back guarantee: if properly installed gutters ever clog or overflow from debris inside them, you get your money back. See the manufacturer's warranty details.

Winter & ice dams

What causes ice dams?
Attic heat melts snow on the upper roof; the water refreezes at the cold eaves and backs up under the shingles. See how to prevent ice dams.
How do you remove ice dams?
By hand. We carefully cut channels through the ice so the water trapped behind it can drain, without the chipping and hammering that damage shingles and gutters.
Do heat cables work?
They keep a path open for meltwater in spots where ice dams form every winter. See heat cable installation.
