Cumberland runs a long way north to south, and the houses change as you go. Down along the Blackstone River, Valley Falls, Lonsdale, Berkeley and Ashton grew up as mill villages, with older homes and two-families set close together. Around Diamond Hill and Arnold Mills, many homes back up to woods. Oak leaves, maple seeds and twigs fill gutters quickly and keep coming into late fall. Guards or a second fall cleaning keep those gutters from overflowing all winter.
